I am a descendant of William Lybrand of the Lexington District, SC bunch. Following from your page. (7) John Lybrand Gen. 6 Born before 1783, the first event for which there is a recorded date. Married Nancy Benay. Children: 1) Henry Lybrand (10) Born 1783. 2) William Lybrand (11) Born 1787. 3) John (Jr.) Lybrand (12) Born 01 May 1791. 4) Issac Lybrand 1796. Married Barbars Wessinger. Issac and Barbara moved to South Edisto River 5) Annie5 Lybrand was born on (birth date unknown). Married Elijah Hendrix. Annie and Elijah moved to Sand Hills I have for many years been trying to find a paper trail to the marriage of John Lybrand and Nancy Benay. This union appears on many family history pages, but I can not locate the original source document for this union. The surname Benay doesn't appear in any South Carolina records I can find. I have found a Bonneau listed, ca 1790 & also the name Jacob Bennet apears as a name used in my Lybrand/Kelly line. I now wonder if the name Bennet is a play on Benay. Do you have a source document for the Nancy Benay surname? I am having the same problem with the William Lybrand/Barbara Sease union. My William & Barbara appear on the 1850 Coosa Co., AL census, & my Jacob Kelly & wife Harriett appear in the same household. I am trying to find the source document for the union of William & Barbara. I know that Harriett was Harriett Eve Lavinia Lybrand. I have the full name on a deed, & I know that Harriett was a Lybrand as one of the children of the union of Jacob Kelly & Harriett live long enought to have a death certificate recorded in Alabama, & the surname of his mother appears as Lybrand. Beyond this point in my family history I can find no documentation. Many thanks if you can put me on a trail for documentation of my Lyband line.
