In answering your question, yes, "Le Logis des Sources" is the name of the place where my wife and I have been living for the last 2 1/2 years now (after having spent 15 years in the French Provence), a splendid old property between Cognac and Saintes, 30 km east of the Atlantic coast. "Logis", locally, means "manoir", or "Manor House". In the last century, it still owned some 250 ha of land, but we bought it, fortunately, with only 2 ha of old trees, wide lawns and a big fishpond, which represents enough work for the two of us. Attached, as you desired, you will find a photograph of the main building (the whole complex of outbuilings, stables, vine cellars a.s.o. is too vast to be shown in one picture), and I am equally attaching a little brochure which shows the holiday cottage which we created this Spring. Just to give you an idea, not for publicity purposes! I saw the beautiful house which you built in 1980, and I am amazed. So you can imagine, and appreciate, what it means to take over a vast old property which had been somewhat neglected for generations, and which was badly hit by the storms of Dec. 1999. Since our arrival, I have spent most of my daytime in doing lumberjack and masonry work - at night, I am a writer and business consultant -, and even the present heat wave does not change my programme very much. Yes, I start very early, and I put in fewer hours, but this dry season is ideal for uncovering roofs and replacing the whole rotten wood work underneath, beams, lintels etc. Then there are our holiday guests, of course, who want some care and attention, but this is essentially my wife's domain. Coming shortly back to genealogy, which brought us together, I must say again that at present I am totally unable to do any work in this area. There is this famous "5 or so cm thick" collection of my father which awaits copying and distributing, but fortunately, if I may say so, only half of it is related to the Leibbrand tree, the other half to my mother's family, Geyer. Still, I have not found yet an easy way to handle this job, so it must wait for the winter months. Also, I have a very bad handicap: my computer knowledge is at the bare minimum. I am amazed how professionally you handle this matter, internet, websites, and e-mail, where I am still struggling like a beginner. The moment I can start scanning the documents of my father, I shall need the help of my son Alfred to put some order into it and, hopefully, compile the whole lot of loose sheets to one single document. But, as I said, this is not for now. Sorry for this somewhat lengthy message, but it was a perfect excuse for me for not working on my roof - with 39° C in the shade! With kindest regards, Hermann Leibbrand Attachment Converted: C:\MAIL\Le Logis des Sources.jpg Attachment Converted: C:\MAIL\Brochure E.doc
